New quick test under $ 10
The expected retail cost of the new rapid over-the-counter COVID-19 home test, “Flowflex,” will be “less than $ 10 per test,” the White House COVID-19 response coordinator said, Jeff Zients, at Wednesday’s briefing.
ACON, the makers of Flowflex, confirmed to ABC News that the White House statement is in line with their current estimated price.
The company told ABC News that its goal when creating the home test was to make it “more accessible and affordable than other over-the-counter tests on the market.”
In comparison, the two rapid test kits currently available on the market – Abbott’s BinaxNow and Quidel’s Quickvue – each cost $ 23.99.
The BinaxNow and Quickvue kits feature two tests, so that a person can test themselves twice in a matter of days. This means that each individual test costs around $ 12 each.
