Trade unionists and women’s rights activists sentenced to prison terms

Women’s rights activist Maryam Rahmani was sentenced to two years in prison. Reyhaneh Ansarinejad, a trade union activist, remains in solitary confinement after her detention was extended three times.

Maryam Rahmani, a women’s rights activist, was sentenced to two years and additional terms.

The women’s rights activist has previously been tried for propaganda against the state and spreading lies by posting messages online. Ms Rahmani explained on her Instagram account that the sentence was suspended for five years.

Maryam Rahmani is now fined 15 million tomans and has to write a 70-page research on love of her country. She must report to the IRGC’s intelligence office during her suspended sentence. She must also receive authorization from the judicial authorities at each stage to leave the country.

Maryam Rahmani can appeal against the sentence within 20 days from the date of its delivery. His trial was held at the Revolutionary Court in Tehran on July 11, 2022.

Labor activist Reyhaneh Ansarinejad has been held in pre-trial detention by Ministry of Intelligence agents since May 12, 2022.

Agents from the Ministry of Intelligence raided her home after midnight and searched her for several hours. Their violent behavior terrified Ms. Ansarinejad’s young daughter. She still suffers from her after-effects despite the passage of two months.

Reyhaneh Ansarinejad is currently being arrested and interrogated in Ward 209 of Evin Prison. The third round of the extension of her detention ended on June 24, 2022. However, no information is available on her as she is not allowed to make calls from prison.

Reyhaneh’s family have initiated all legal proceedings put in place by the prosecutor’s office to release her on bail and are demanding the immediate release of their daughter.

Reyhaneh Ansarinejad suffers from severe back and foot pain due to rheumatism

arthritis. Keeping her in solitary confinement is tantamount to torture.

Ms. Ansarinejad is her daughter’s sole guardian. The judiciary and the intelligence ministry of the mullahs’ regime failed to determine his case.
