Tampa family kids share names with Lightning stars Nikita and Brayden
TAMPA, Fla .– Tampa Bay fans have caught Bolts fever, including a family whose children have the same names as a pair of Tampa Bay Lightning superstars.
“We were definitely buying Kucherov shirts, he’s our favorite player,” said Lightning fan Laine Franklin.
Laine and Eric Franklin are big fans of Bolts.
“My husband and I went to games all the time,” Laine told ABC Action News sports presenter Kyle Burger. “He’s a very big fan. He plays hockey for fun, and we always go to games.
Those late-night Lightning games are a little less common now that they’re parents to Nikita, five, and Brayden, two.
“The first night I found out I was pregnant we were heading to the game,” Laine said. “The whole story, like a joke, we were going to name our child after the first person who scored. I predicted it would be Nikita Kucherov and of course it was.
Yes, Nikita is named after the Russian striker. Maybe it’s a good thing Vladislav Namestnikov didn’t score the first goal.
Three years later, baby Brayden was born.
“Brayden is two years old and he happens to have the same name as another of the players,” Laine said. “We chose the name Brayden and of course Brayden Point is part of the team.”
Good things have happened since Nikita and Brayden were born. Nikita, the Russian, won an MVP and Brayden scored the deciding goal in Game 6 of the 2020 Stanley Cup Final.
“We love having two player names. It’s funny.”
It’s a shame Thursday 3’s puck game passed the kids’ bedtime at 8 p.m.
