New agreement with SA Post Office to improve online shopping deliveries in South Africa
The SA Post Office has signed an agreement with Mail Americas to offer online shoppers lower fees, faster deliveries and easier customs clearance.
Mail Americas is an e-commerce platform specializing in providing cross-border business-to-customer solutions to postal operators.
Under the agreement, SA Post Office will provide distribution services to Mail Americas customers in South Africa and the subcontinent.
According to the SA post office, the deal will give online merchants better access to southern Africa, including rural areas.
“For individuals who buy items online, this means more choice, lower shipping costs, and faster and easier deliveries and customs clearances,” the SA post office said.
The agreement between SA Post Office and Mail Americas entered into force on June 1, 2021.
This announcement follows a strategic partnership between online merchant Wish and the SA post office.
Wish now works directly with Swiss Post to create a more cohesive and efficient experience for its customers.
Wish vice president of operations Thomas Chuang said the partnership included benefits such as 50% shorter transit times, end-to-end tracking visibility and delivery confirmation.
Customers will also receive bulk shipments for multiple items and SMS and physical notifications of deliveries awaiting pickup.
This week, SA Post said that several Wish parcel shipments had arrived in South Africa since the agreement between the two companies took effect.
The packages from the first shipment have been picked up by customers and the Post has urged customers who receive an SMS to collect their package at their local branch.
