National Lottery Support for Braehead GC
A CLACKS golf club has received a four-figure grant from the National Lottery and plans to spend this money on improving training facilities for all members.
Braehead GC has received £ 4,950 through the National Lottery Community Fund in partnership with sportscotland.
Funding comes from the National Lottery Awards for All Scotland, which administers small grants from the National Lottery between £ 300 and £ 10,000.
Braehead GC captain Derek Doyle explained that funding was based on the success of the club’s junior coaching sessions during the winter months.
He said: “Throughout January and February our PGA Professional Ron Tickle, myself and Lynn Parsler, the junior host, have offered junior coaching sessions throughout the winter to allow for young people to leave the house and see their friends.
“Even though it was cold and humid, they just loved getting away from the house.”
Derek explained how the grant money will be used to improve the training facilities, not only for the juniors but for all club members.
The club also plans to visit local primary schools and offer coaching sessions for children, and some of the money will also be used to purchase equipment for juniors at the club.
Stewart Harris, Managing Director of sportscotland said: “This is extremely welcome news for sport in Scotland at a time of many challenges in the sport industry.
“This National Lottery investment will make a huge difference to clubs and communities across the country. The grants will help contribute to sportscotland’s vision of an active Scotland where everyone enjoys sport.”
“This support for sport and communities would not be possible without the National Lottery players. I would like to thank them for their contributions which play a vital role in supporting individuals, projects and communities in these difficult times.”
Kate Still, of the National Lottery Community Fund, added: “Charities and community groups across Scotland have played an incredible role in addressing the challenges of Covid-19.
“It’s great to see that a wide range of projects across the length and breadth of Scotland are benefiting from this grant package.
“Thanks to the actors of the National Lottery, this funding will breathe new life into local communities, allowing essential community projects to adapt and rebuild with local populations at their heart.”
