National Lottery Good Causes Prize for Raphoe – Highland Radio
Raphoe Community Sport Development, which was established in 2013 with the ambition of building a new soccer field for the whole community to enjoy, was announced today as the winner of the Sport Award in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards.
Before the founding of Donegal-based Raphoe Community Sport Development, the children and adults who played soccer for Raphoe had never had a playground to play on. Players sometimes had to complete a full season playing all of their games away from Raphoe.
After years without having their own field, the Raphoe Community Sport Development Committee decided it was time for a change. Funds raised by National Lottery players enabled the Donegal club to build a playing field that would finally give their local teams a playing field on which to play. The club has since flourished and now has more than 160 active members and 16 teams of male and female players.
