CamSoda offers sponsorship to esports prospects
New York-based adult cam site CamSoda is looking to enter the esports industry by offering a sponsorship of $ 5,000 (£ 3,821) to players, with the possibility of a bonus of up to $ 100,000 (£ 76,376).
Applications are Open now for sponsorship, the website asking prospects to submit an essay explaining why they deserve the opportunity, along with a video clip and social media information.
The chosen player would receive a billboard in downtown Los Angeles, an invitation to become the first member of CamSoda Team, and a personalized game jersey as well as money. A panel of judges will decide on the recipient – who must be 18 years of age or older – by November 2.
Daryn Parker, Vice President of CamSoda discussed the company in a statement: “As an adult entertainment webcam platform, with many artists working in the moonlight as gamers, we saw a unique opportunity to enter the industry growing rapidly and supporting an established player with an enthusiastic following who we can help catapult to the next level I encourage all eligible athletes to apply for our sponsorship.
This is not the first time that a company involved in porn has interfered in esports. Nutaku announced an adult esports tournament in July, with YouPorn as the main sponsor. Not only that, YouPorn launched Team YP – an esports division – in December 2014.
Esports Insider Says: There appears to be a slowly developing link between the esports and porn industries; it’s hard to ignore that they are both heavily populated by young adult males. It’s a little odd that there is a chance that $ 100,000 in bonus cash will be awarded, but it still seems like a decent opportunity for a budding and aspiring player to get some publicity and funding nonetheless.
